Ramya Jirasinghe-Hewavitharne (Jirasinghe) (1995) - Submitted on 08 August 2008
Major : Literature

writes, "A friend asked me to write a book, for an NGO that she knew, about the 2004 tsunami and, Rhythm of the Sea was published last year. The same year I was asked to write another book, about a hundred-odd year-old missionary school in Kandy. That book, which turned out to be a beautiful coffee table book of about 45,000 words, has now gone to the printers. Also, a manuscript of my poetry was shortlisted for the Gratiaen Prize (the premier prize for writing in Sri Lanka which was set up by Michael Ondaatje from his Booker money) this year."
