Timeline for Graduating Seniors May 2011
The Dean of Academic Affairs would like to see all students graduate in a timely manner. Students must please follow the guidance on this page very carefully, in order to follow the processes necessary to ensure graduation. Any questions should be directed to advisors in the first instance, or to the Dean if the advisor is unable to assist.
Students fully completing their graduation requirements in the 2010 summer session, the fall 2010 semester, or the spring 2011 semester are eligible to receive their Richmond diplomas after the end of the term in which they have completed their degree requirements.
All students completing in this time period may also attend Commencement (the University’s graduation ceremony) to be held on Thursday 12 May 2011.

IT IS IN YOUR OWN INTEREST TO SUBMIT YOUR GCL BY THE SPECIFIED DEADLINE. ANY DELAY MAY JEOPARDIZE YOUR GRADUATION.
All students must:
- Consult with their advisor and complete a Graduation Check List (GCL), using the degree planner for their major. This document should be printed from individual departmental webpages found at: http://www.richmond.ac.uk/content/academic-programs.aspx
- Submit the completed GCL (signed by student AND advisor) to the Dean of Academic Affairs
- Complete a Graduation Information Form (GIF) by the deadlines specified above. The GIF form may be downloaded from: http://www.richmond.ac.uk/content/academic-affairs/forms-for-academic-procedures.aspx This is essential for all students, but is particularly important for Summer and December graduates, so that your diploma can be posted to your specified address, and for Student Affairs to send you information regarding the Commencement Ceremony.
- Be certified as financially clear by the Finance Office. Students with outstanding financial commitments to the university will not receive diplomas or transcripts, and will not be eligible to attend the Commencement Ceremony. Please contact the finance office for exact clearance deadlines.
IMPORTANT NOTES FOR ALL GRADUATING SENIORS:
TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS Students and their families should not make travel arrangements until and unless they have received official confirmation from the Dean of Academic Affairs that their graduation requirements are complete. They should not make travel arrangements until the Finance Office has confirmed clearance.
Courses Taken Elsewhere Students taking courses elsewhere at any time must have the prior approval of the Dean of Academic Affairs (ask for additional information). In particular, students intending to complete Richmond graduation requirements elsewhere must have prior approval, must apply for an official Leave of Absence, and must complete the requirements and provide official transcripts no later than 10 May 2011.
Students Completing Graduation Requirements Elsewhere
- Students completing Richmond graduation requirements elsewhere under an official Leave of Absence who fail to provide official documentation of successful course completion by 10 May 2011 will not be permitted to participate in the 12 May 2011 graduation ceremony.
- If official documentation is provided before the expiration of the Leave of Absence, the student’s diploma will be awarded at the next appropriate date of issuance of diplomas, and the student will be eligible to attend the Richmond graduation ceremony following actual completion of the degree requirements, with OU validation of the degree.
- If official documentation is not provided before the expiration of the Leave of Absence, the student’s OU registration will lapse with no possibility of renewal.
- After expiration of the Leave of Absence, the student may apply for re-admission to Richmond. If the application is successful, the student will be re-admitted under the graduation requirements in effect at the time of re-admission (which may be substantially different than those under which the student was originally admitted). If the student subsequently satisfies the degree requirements, a Richmond diploma will be awarded at the next Richmond graduation ceremony following actual completion of the degree requirements. Since the student’s OU registration will have lapsed, this degree will not be OU validated.
