Past Commencement Ceremonies

Past commencement ceremony

In the early years of Richmond, a graduation ceremony took place three times a year as students completed their studies: in December, May and at the completion of Summer School.

Initially, AA graduation ceremonies were held in the summer on the Richmond Hill campus. As Richmond grew in size it was necessary to find larger, indoor venues.

St Matthias Church in Richmond

St Matthias Church in Richmond

In the 1970’s and 1980’s St Matthias Church in Richmond was regularly used for December and May graduations. Trustees, Academic Governors, Faculty and graduates processed from campus to St Matthias walking down Queens Road. The reception was held on campus after the ceremony.

Kensington Town Hall

Kensington Town Hall

In 1985, Kensington Town Hall became a regular venue alternating with St Matthias depending on the size of the graduating class until St Matthias could not longer accommodate the larger graduating classes. In the early 1990s, Church House in Westminster alternated with Kensington Town Hall.
