The Department of Student Affairs is now selling spots on trips for the Spring 2010 term on the University website!

Day Trip to Windsor
23 January
“Windsor Castle is an official residence of The Queen and the largest occupied castle in the world. A Royal home and fortress for over 900 years, the Castle remains a working palace today.
Visitors can walk around the State Apartments, extensive suites of rooms at the heart of the working palace. For part of the year visitors can also see the Semi State rooms, which are some of the most splendid interiors in the castle. They are furnished with treasures from the Royal Collection including paintings by Holbein, Rubens, Van Dyck and Lawrence, fine tapestries and porcelain, sculpture and armour.
Within the Castle complex there are many additional attractions, including the Drawings Gallery, Queen Mary's dolls' house, and the fourteenth-century St. George's Chapel, the burial place of ten sovereigns and setting for many Royal weddings.”
The cost includes transport by way of train and entry ticket to the castle

Day Trip to Dover
6 February
Dover is a town that was built by the Romans on the coast in the county of Kent. It is also a large port with ferries linking Dover to Calais in France and Ostende in Belgium. This day trip will include a tour of Dover Castle as well as the secret wartime tunnels built into the white cliffs of Dover and used during WWII.
*The cost of this day trip includes transportation and entrance fees to Dover Castle and Tunnels.

Weekend in Edinburgh
26-28 February
Be whisked away for a weekend to the medieval city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Leaving Friday lunchtime and back Sunday night it will be a mixture of castles, haggis and a hard to understand accent!
Price includes return train travel, hostel accommodation, castle entry and bus tour.

Spring Break in Ireland
5-9 March
Escape from City life and spend Spring break in Ireland. First stop Dublin for a pint of Guiness at the brewery then into the countryside of Southern Ireland in a loop that brings us back to Dublin. We stop off at Kilarney, Ennis and Galway on our tour and even get to kiss the Blarney Stone! We fly Sunday morning and arrive back Thursday night.
Includes flights, private coach travel around Ireland, professional guides, hostel accommodation and Guinness factory admission.

Spring Break in Egypt
6-12 March
Richmond’s Cruise of The Upper Nile–Mythical and Ancient History for Fall Break!
This Fall Break why not do something that little bit special? While everyone else is away doing the everyday Rome, Amsterdam or Barcelona routes, why not discover the ancient wonders of the world while catching some rays on an 8 day, five star cruise!

Day Trip to Stonehenge and Bath
20 March
Stonehenge dates back to 3000 BC and no one knows its real use. Was it a place of sun worship or sacrifice, an astronomical calculator or a royal palace? The mystical site was the home of Britain’s druids who gather there every year to worship pagan gods.
Bath, England is a unique city; its hot springs, Roman Baths, splendid Abbey and Georgian stone crescents have attracted visitors for centuries. Set in rolling Somerset countryside, just over 100 miles west of London, it is a beautiful and unforgettable place to visit.

Weekend in Lisbon
2-5 April
Come and discover the capital city of Portugal. Situated on the West coast it is about as far West as you can go in Europe. Its contemporary culture, castles, museums and with the accommodation located right in the centre of the city it is a perfect short break location! To make the most of the Easter break, the trip will leave Friday morning and arrive back Monday evening.
Trip includes British Airways flights, (better than average) hostel accommodation inc breakfast, airport transfers, bus tour, castle entry and day out in Sintra.

Weekend in Belgium
25-27 March
Brussels is the capital of Belgium, and the administrative heart of the European Union. Growing from a 10th century fortress town founded by Charlemagne’s grandson into a city of over one million inhabitants, Brussels is also capital of the Brussels-Capital Region, of Flanders, and of the French Community of Belgium.
Brussels is considered the de facto capital of the European Union, and hosts many of its key institutions. NATO, the Western European Union and EUROCONTROL are also headquartered in the city.
This trip includes Eurostar transport to Brussels, 2 nights’ hotel accommodation, daily breakfasts and day trip to Bruges.

We here at Richmond have been using Preseli Venture for four times a year for five years now and they have been entertaining American and overseas students for 15 years! They’ve been told they’re very good at it! Each year over 700 international students visit them for what they routinely say was their best weekend out of all the trips.

Day Trip to Oxford
17 April
Oxford is the 'City of Dreaming Spires,' whose hushed courtyards have inspired generations of scholars including Bill Clinton and writers, Lewis Carroll who wrote 'Alice in Wonderland', C.S. Lewis who wrote 'Chronicles of Narnia' and the immortal J.R.R. Tolkein, author of 'Lord of the Rings’. On the walking tour you'll visit Christ Church college, where Harry Potter scenes were filmed, see the Bodleian Library and the picture-perfect college courtyards for which Oxford is justifiably famous.
After the guided tour, students will have time to wander around by themselves.
*Cost includes transportation by coach. The walking tour is free, but will be guided by our very own Registrar, Dr. Loughlin-Chow. Afternoon activities will be up to the individual student.

Weekend in Rome
23-25 April
No other city comes close. It may no longer be caput mundi (capital of the world), but Rome is an epic, bubbling-over metropolis harbouring lost empires. One visit and you’ll be hooked. Rome has a glorious monumentality that it wears without reverence. Its architectural heirlooms are buzzed around by car and Vespa as if they were no more than traffic islands.
The city bombards you with images: elderly ladies with dyed hair chatting in Trastevere; priests with cigars strolling the Imperial Forums; traffic jams around the Colosseum ; plateloads of pasta in Piazza Navona; sinuous trees beside the Villa Borghese; barrages of pastel-coloured scooters revving up at traffic lights as if preparing for a race.
Rome it is a great city to visit ! This trip will take in the Forum and Colosseum, Capitoline and Monument to Victor Emmanuel , late afternoon visit to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona. Those who wish to experience mass at the Vatican can. There will be lots of free time to take in the Vatican museum, Catacombs and a possible visit to architect Piacentini's EUR . When in Rome...
